Positively charged molecular ions are known to be important constituents of dense and diffuse interstellar clouds. During the last ten years also several negatively charged species have been discovered, but the role they play in the evolution of interstellar clouds is still unclear. We carry out laboratory studies on the reaction kinetics, reaction dynamics and spectroscopy of negative ions in order to shed light on the formation and destruction pathways of interstellar anions.
